First Order of Business

So Cal only list.

Gyu-Kaku- Westside, Los Angeles
first date with b here. a great atmosphere for that just because it gives you something to do and share in doing instead of looking really nervous. its dark and the night we went on, it was already late so there were only a few couples left behind. forgot what we ordered-- just one of the packages for 1 and it was more than enough for the both of us (given that we were really nervous). b ordered some beers along with the food. the nice part about it being a date spot is that once you get your food, they dont really need to check up on you so it helps to not disrupt conversation. the food was good-- the grilled veggies surprisingly my favorite, shrimps arent my thing but i remember the short ribs meat to be good. very simple, to the point, no frills. not our go to japanese bbq place (we adore manpuku in costa mesa). didnt touch the bill so i couldnt tell you how much was dropped but im sure thats not hard to find out. id guess 50 for the two of us lovebirds. they do have a happy hour menu with drink specials which would be awesome for some girls night out. ohhhh and i do have to warn, the down side is that while im sure i didnt smell as bad as i would if we went to kbbq, be forewarned if theres some type of cupcaking that might result later on in the night-- charcoal-- not so sexy but at that stage--we're all suckers lapping it up. lol. http://www.gyu-kaku.com/index.php

Japon Bistro- Pasadena

went here with a fairly big group. really nice ambience and the sushi-- although often heard when in regards to sushi-- i truly think that place knows what they're doing and its a special thing at that. b and i have never had sea bream before but damn, if anything was memorable from that night-- it would have been that. we had two bites and died. literally. it was served with a citrus ponzu sauce and a garnish that really brought the freshness and inherent saltiness of the fish out. amazzzzzzing. the seafood dynamite was very creamy and filled with scallops which is always a plus. their rolls can truly be said as unique and not to disappoint. worth a try if you're in the area looking for dinner spot. they brought out mochi and lychee ice cream at the end :) i love that sushi in pasadena is never pretentious as it would in la. http://www.japonbistro-pasadena.com/
